PS3 Slim?

Posted by Mike on Aug 23, 2009 in General News, PS3

A new logo, a new firmware and a new system, it looks like Sony’s been busy producing yet another wonder!  In case you haven’t heard, Sony has slimmed down their Playstation 3 game console to 2/3 of weight/form-factor and loaded it with a 120GB Hard Drive, pictured below:

This new console reigns in the new Era of making the PS3 Consumer Friendly.  Now you ask, “Consumer Friendly”? , well Sony has finally taken everyone’s advice and knocked the price down($100 respectively for all current lines).  You can pick up a slim console of your own for the friendly price of $299.99 starting September 1.  However, if you’re not willing to wait two weeks, you can hop in store and take advantage of the price change immediately.  I’d recommend you wait as the new console is 120GBs of storage, whereas the current line available at the same price point stores 80GBs, but I don’t control your wallet now do I?

Back to the slim, not only have they cut the price, but power consumption and noise is down too!  Consumer will use at least 2/3 less energy and the noise ratio follows the same fraction!  I must say, GOOD MOVE SONY.  Anyways, if you’re still curious about the differences, check out Sony’s Press Release.  You can also check out all of Engadget’s News Links and the upcoming 3.0 firmware to learn more!

PS3 Photo Gallery: Featured in PS3 FW 2.60

Posted by Mike on Jan 21, 2009 in General News

playstation-photo-gallery-2

Sony is prepping a brand new firmware update which improves DivX playback and allows guest access to the Playstation Store(no more mistaken purchases by one of your friends on your account!).  They are also including a brand new multimedia function called “Photo Gallery”.  This new PS3 application enhances the current photo channel by pushing meta-tagging on your photos.  This new app can recognize faces, age groups and different photo playlists all in a new interface for Playstation Users.

Take a few minutes to watch the video:

Looks like a useful app, but seriously Sony, can we get back to gaming please(or improving Playstation Home!!!).  The new firmware will be available soon, so look out!

LittleBigPlanet – LittleBigWorkshop

Posted by Mike on Jan 10, 2009 in PS3

So, how would the 2008 Presidential Vote be different if he had run:

I might have voted for him, the least I could say is he’s creative, how could you fear him? Foreign policy is simple with him, people would melt with his cuteness.

Anyways, take a chance to drop into the new LittleBigPlanet website titled, “LittleBigWorkshop“. Here you can build new sackboys(playable online), new levels and work with cool content from the comfort of your PC. You can even blueprint future LittleBigPlanet levels you want to build and receive other gamers comments on your designs.

Send your LittleBigPlanet love!

Playstation Home: A Big FLOP

Posted by Mike on Jan 10, 2009 in General News
Hi...So...this is awkward. What am I supposed to do in here Sony?

Hi...So...this is awkward. What am I supposed to do in here Sony?

After a couple of hours in Home over the last 3 weeks, I’ve come to a conclusion, it’s a waste of time!!! Home has been advertised for a little over three years now, presented at E3 2006 as a great new feature coming to the PS3 “soon”. Due to numerous delays and excessive pre-beta testing, Sony finally made it available, as a public beta, just before the holidays. However, they stripped home of most of it’s features, making Home simply boring. Its like walking into a Candy store, except there’s no candy on the shelves, the salesman is punching its non-existent products at you and the price tag on these products is the weekly wage of most third world country factory workers…

Seriously, what’s the deal Sony? Why are you charging me 1.99 for a fake T-Shirt, or 9.99 for a fake PAD which I can’t even put a 4.99 Plasma TV in? Why did you tease us with the early beta’s and deliver a crappy sub-beta with no features. Even worse, you promoted the new “Red Bull” island and all you can do is fly a dinky plane around a 3D environment!

I’m not sorry about this comment. SCEA, you need to get your game together, the PS3 is failing and your losing one of your most avid game supporters. Do something about it!

Fords’ possible Future Sync Features, Bring on the British Bodyless AI

Posted by Mike on Jan 10, 2009 in General News

Ford is demoing their Microsoft Sync technology at CES this week and has a concept video on a possible new Sync feature in the future.  Her name, EVA, which is short for Emotic Voice Activation.  Essentially, a disembodied float British lady will listen and respond to your every command.  Not only does she understand commands, she can also sense your mood and adjust the music to meet your current state.  Check out the video:

Personally, I’m having nightmares about EVA, she sounds like a certain V.I.K.I from iRobot.  Imagine if EVA has a bad morning and decides to lead your voice directed GPS vehicle off a cliff.  I’ll leave you with a Will Smith quote:

Detective Del Spooner: What if I’m right?
Lt. John Bergin: [sighs] Well, then I guess we’re gonna miss the good old days.
Detective Del Spooner: What good old days?
Lt. John Bergin: When people were killed by *other people*.

If you have a taste for indie games, this might be right up your ally. Auditorium features a unique environment where you bend light to meet your objective. Each obstacle you complete adds to the symposium of music you are creating. It’s really addictive and a lot of fun, plus you can’t help but admire how beautiful it sounds and looks!
